Winter weather heads our way

Jack Frost seems to be signaling his
-
Chickens in the snow, Lewes
arrival. There is a nip in the air, frost is predicted for these parts and
winter duvets are being dug out from hibernation. So, shall we see a repeat of
the chaos that hit East Sussex last year?
Last year
many parts of the UK experienced the worst winter for some 30 years and a lack
of planning resulted in travel chaos, so many in the region will be hoping that
the Lewes District Council will have been banking salt supplies and the rail
tracks will be deiced.
The
closure of roads had its upside though, I, for one, had fun sliding down School
Hill, stock up on the sledges early at Intersport. I also thoroughly enjoyed
the cosy fire at the John Harvey Tavern, where – such is the dedication of the
pub’s staff – one of the barmen had walked in from Ringmer. Strangely enough (or
not) most of the shops on Cliffe High Street were closed yet the pubs were
open! For a good pub guide to Lewes see.
Commuters from
Lewes – and as far down the line as Seaford - also gained a couple of extra
days off due to cancelled trains creating a rather demob-happy atmosphere in
the town. To check on train departures .see the live departure board.
To keep
the chill at bay, why not have your electric blanket tested for free? LDC are holding testing session nearby the
town in Peacehaven, Seaford, Newhaven and Ringmer this week, for details and
blanket collection call Rebecca Wynn on 484363.
Also,
remember the birds may be unable to forage for food, so stock up at Fur, Feathers’
N’ Fins or at Pets Corner.
And so
that you are prepared for the cold snap, remember to check the forecast on the
site…

ReportI hope it snows at the weekend and lays for some sledging fun...and then disappears for Monday! What are the chances?
