Vote Green for change, for fairness and for a party that works hard for you

On Thursday it is a chance to vote

for change. For a party that doesn’t just promise but one that delivers

too. You only have to look around and count the huge number of “Vote

Green” posters to see that there is a real momentum behind the Green

Party and that following our success in the local elections four years

ago people trust us and know that a Green vote isn’t a gamble, isn’t a

risk, but is a choice more people than ever before will be choosing to

make. In fact, hard working Lead Green District Councillor Candidates

like Cllr Susan Murray (Castle Ward) and Matt Kent (Bridge Ward) will add a new voice for Lewes and beyond. Other political parties have tried and failed.

Our commitment is the same as that we made before: we won’t take your support on

election day and forget it. Far from it. Our commitment is to harness

the campaigning power and support we have and to work for a better

Lewes. A cleaner, greener, and fairer town for all. We’ll do this by

delivering a communicative and representative council that asks you to

express your opinion and listens to what you have to say, a council with

a social and environmental conscience that many of you share, a council

that will explain it’s decisions and enter debate with those who

disagree so that the reasons behind decision making are transparent.

It’s not complicated but we’re the only people with a plan to do it.

Our supporters are voting for us because they agree with what we say

and that’s been one of the great things about canvassing: we aren’t

getting a protest vote against the Lib Dems, we are getting a vote of

support. People are voting for us because they want a Green council, not

just because they don’t want a Lib Dem council. Again, amongst those

who have promised us their votes are several Labour Party members – some

of them activitists for Labour – who tell us they have realised we

represent their views better than their own party. They know without

doubt that we will campaign hard on local issues because they have

already seen us doing it for a long time. This is all a sure sign that

the Green Party is the credible alternative to what mainstream politics

has become.

We ask you again for your vote and thank you in anticipation of your

support. If you’ve got any questions then let us know via a reply to

this article or call us on 01273 473912. One of the things that makes us

different is that we love to be challenged on our policies and ideas

because we are confident in them and have thought them through and

believe them to be solid. We’ll also always give an honest answer.

We’ll leave you with a quote from someone we met while canvassing and very much hope we can represent you after May 5th.

“I’ve always voted Lib Dem before just because that’s what you do in

Lewes, you vote Lib Dem. I’m more to the left than that but I lost

confidence in Labour a long time ago and I’ve been waiting for an

alternative. The more I read what you say and do the more I find I agree

with you on everything. So I’m a first time Green voter, nervous, but

confident you won’t let me down. I’m starting to feel lucky I have a

chance to vote Green because I’m sure you guys are the difference a lot

of people have been waiting for.”
