Applications opened on Monday for this year’s Artwave festival, the annual visual arts jamboree co-ordinated by Lewes District Council, exhibiting local artists’ wares all over the town (and beyond) from down at the Dripping Pan, to the local cafes and residents’ houses.

The gems displayed for all to see are the creations of both experts and novices and event provides an opportunity to buy the goods too.

The not-for-profit festival, which last year saw a plethora of red signs popping up in many a twitten, and this year takes place from August 27 until September 11, provides inspiration for aspiring artists, as well as the chance to snoop around behind normally closed doors.

Now in its 18th year the event supports both artists and businesses, attracting visitors from outside the town, unveiling the vast amount of talent in the town. Last year 97 venues were open to some 28,000 recorded visitors, showcasing the work of more than 370 artists from age 11 upwards.

Angie Osborne, co-ordinator of the festival, is keen to highlight the inclusion of venues in surrounding areas such as Seaford and Newhaven too. So enter or just enjoy three great weekends of visual loveliness.

Applications close on April 15 at midday.
