Have just read Heartstone by CJ Sansom. A character (inTudor times) was in charge of a monastic hunting park, then it was 'put down' and the land sold off in parcels. The name: Lewes Priory.
The engineers who demolished Lewes for Lord Cromwell (says the author) took down the monastic house in a great roar and cloud of dust - it was a terrible sight.
Good reading
