Lewes members of Amnesty International have met the Foreign Minister with responsibility for Human Rights (Jeremy Browne) to hand over a petition signed by Lewes Residents protesting against continuing use of capital punishment around the world. Lewes MP Norman Baker accompanied them. Mr Brown promised to follow up the case of Hakkamada who has been on death row in japan since 1968.
Sara Birch, who is the Chair of Lewes Amnesty International was delighted to have had the meeting and to help nudge the government authorities to press Japanese authorities to review the case.
