Sussex Police are warning of disruption on the roads in Lewes next Tuesday (27th September) as three large 'loads' are moved to a Sussex wind farm.
The loads which are believed to consist of the base, pillar and turbine elements of one wind tower are being transported from docks at Purfleet, Essex, coming down the M23 at about 2pm to the A27 at Patcham, and going through the Cuilfail Tunnel in Lewes to the B2192 towards Ringmer, then into New Road and onto the wind farm. The tunnel will have to be closed to general traffic whilst the loads – travelling several hundred yards apart – are moved through the structure.
Sussex Road Policing officers will be escorting the first load due to its 16' 3" width. The other two are smaller and do not require a police escort
A Sussex Police spokesman said; "The loads should be travelling at up to 40mph so we hope that the whole exercise will be completed before the afternoon rush hour starts. However there may be some delays as the first of the three loads manoeuvres on to the A27 at Patcham, and again as it goes through the Cuilfail tunnel, which will have to be briefly closed to other traffic.
"Please bear these movements in mind, particularly if you are likely to be driving between Patcham and Lewes on Tuesday mid-afternoon."

Sounds like a fun afternoon of traffic in Lewes! At least we'll be stuck in traffic and not need to park in the town...let's hope we don't get a parking ticket anyway!

ReportThis delivery is for Glyndebourne's wind turbine so no doubt the authorities will bend over backwards to do as Glyndebourne asks!
