A warning has been issued to business owners and workers in Lewes about a couple of female tricksters believed to be operating in the town and along the coast.
The women, are both described as 5"5' in height and medium build with dark complexions, they are believed to be of Spanish or Romanian origin with a poor grasp of English.
Reports indicate that the two women have been entering hairdressers, estate agents and offices across the district with the intention of stealing items such as mobile phones and purses from staff. They are believed to use distraction techniques to create opportunities for theft, distracting staff by one half of the duo speaking animatedly in a foreign language in a bid to keep attention away from her accomplice.
People are urged to be vigilant, as incidents have been reported across the county town and the coast.
Lewes Chamber of Commerce said: "It is worth bearing this in mind when you are out shopping and being cautious with your possessions. Do not to leave purses / phones in open bags, prams or pockets where they could be easily taken."
Please report any suspicious activity to Sussex Police on 101.
